The Icom ID-51A D-STAR HT may be the most hi-tech dual band HT in the world. It covers 2 meters and 440 MHz and receives two bands simultaneously (V/V, U/U & V/U). It is IPX7 waterproof and features a built-in GPS! The large 128x104 dot-matrix display is impressive. This radio has an astounding 1304 channel alphanumeric memory system. There is a Micro SD card slot for an optional memory card. This can be used to store DVR Incoming/Outgoing Messages, GPS Log and Memory Backup. There is built-in CTCSS/DTCS encode/decode for analog FM. It even features an independent AM and FM broadcast receiver. A new Voice Memory feature records incoming and outgoing calls and can be used as a voice recorder.

Softrock RXTX SDR

This kit is an SDR Transceiver that follows in the very successful line of RXTX Softrocks, the most recent being the RXTX V6.3 multi-band transceiver. The Ensemble kit is essentially the RXTX V6.3, but with its band-specific components fixed and predetermined (as opposed to the plug-in daughtrer boards for these functions in the RXTX V6.3). The kit, therefore, is not compatible with the Mobo series of add-ons, since they depend upon the plug and socket arrangements of the RXTX V6.3. The kit comes in five versions, corresponding to five "super-bands":

ICOM PCR-1000 Receiver (Used for RemoteHams)

The Icom PCR1000 wideband computer receiver connects externally to your PC. This provides compatibility with many computer models, even laptops. Incredible coverage is yours with reception from 10 kHz to 1300 MHz (less cellular). Modes of reception (and bandwidth) include AM (15/6 kHz), FM-Wide (230 kHz), FM-Narrow (15/6 kHz), SSB (2.8 kHz) and CW (2.8 kHz). The G5RV antenna is a dipole with a symmetric resonant feeder line, which serves as impedance matcher for a 50 Ohm coax cable to the transceiver. Louis Varney invented this antenna in 1946.

Homemade 80-Meter Loop (up 25 feet)

The Horizontal Loop, also known as the Loop Skywire Antenna, is an old but very effective design. Although this design has been around for a long time, it is only gaining popularity now due to the recent improvement in high power antenna tuners. The main purpose of constructing this omni directional antenna is to provide a?multi band?antenna which performs well from the lowest frequency band for which it is designed, all the way through 10 meters. It will usually even work well on 6 meters if your tuner and balun will handle that band.

Kenwood MC-60 Desk Mic

The Kenwood MC-60A has been a popular desk mic among Kenwood owners for many years. It has a communication type dynamic unidirectional moving coil type mic element. It features UP-DOWN tuning (on compatible Kenwood transceivers) plus a built-in pre-amp. There is a switch for PTT (push to talk) and also a lock feature. The mic impedance may be set for 50K ohms or 500 ohms. The frequency response is 150 Hz to 10 kHz (-6dB) with the Preamp off and 200 Hz to 7 kHz (-6 dB) with the Preamp on.

Raspberry Pi and DVAP combination for D-Star Hotpot

One of the coolest projects I recently read is how you can combine a Raspberry Pi with an DV Access Point dongle. The DV Access Point Dongle connects to your PC or Intel based Mac via a USB port and provides a 2 meter or 70 cm Access Point for use with a D-STAR radio. Using an Internet connection, a user may connect to and communicate with D-STAR gateways and reflectors around the world. The DVAPTool application used with the DV Access Point Dongle may be installed and run on Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7/8, Mac OS X Leopard/Snow Leopard, or many flavors of Linux (like with the Raspberry Pi).

This is a great little PC the runs WIndows XP Pro and serves my ADS-B Virtual Aircraft Radar system and runs HDSDR and EasyPal with my Softrock Ensemble II to decode Digital SSTV images.
